A short wand attached to a string at its balance point, creating the illusion of floating and levitating in mid-air.

The magic of leviwand is in the illusion — it looks like telekinesis when done well. LED versions are especially stunning in the dark.

Getting started

You can make a basic leviwand from a dowel, fishing line, and a finger loop. Learn the basic float, figure-8, and behind-the-back pass.

DIY — Make your own leviwand

Basic leviwand (15 min, ~5 EUR)

Materials: wooden dowel or aluminium tube (30-50cm), thin fishing line or invisible thread, a small ring for your finger

  1. Find the exact balance point of the dowel (where it sits flat on your finger)
  2. Drill a tiny hole at the balance point
  3. Thread fishing line through the hole, tie a secure knot
  4. Cut the string to forearm length
  5. Attach a finger ring or loop at the other end
  6. Optional: paint the wand a bright colour — keep the string invisible

The illusion works because the audience can't see the string. Use the thinnest line you can find.
