Gunslingers

Technique

An advanced family of poi techniques where the poi is spun from a behind-the-back or reversed-hand position. Named for the image of a gunslinger drawing from a hip holster.

What it includes

  • Gunslinger weave — forward and reverse 2-beat weaves from the gunslinger position
  • Gunslinger flowers — antispin and inspin flowers from behind the body
  • Gunslinger hybrids — combining gunslinger with standard front-facing patterns

How to learn

  1. Master standard weaves and flowers thoroughly first
  2. Practice reaching behind your back and finding comfortable hand positions
  3. Learn at least 3 entry methods and 2 exit methods
  4. The patterns behind the body are the same as in front — just from a different orientation

Applies to

Poi (primary). Some adaptations possible with fans.
