Extensions

Technique

An extension (also called "long-arm") is a technique where the poi head and your hand both trace circles in the same direction, with your arm fully extended. The poi sweeps through a large arc while the hand orbits in a tighter circle.

How it works

Your arm stretches out fully and follows the unit circle while the poi extends the reach. The effect looks like the poi is drawing a large, smooth circle with the arm acting as a spoke.

Variations

  • Circular extension — hand and poi trace concentric circles
  • Linear extension — the poi traces a straight-line path outward

Applies to

Poi (primary), staff, leviwand. Part of the "tech poi" vocabulary.
