Kevlar Wick Care
Safetyfiresafety
Kevlar wicks last years if treated right.
Breaking in new wicks
- Soak in paraffin for 2-3 hours before first burn
- First burn will be short — the wick needs to absorb fuel
- After 3-5 burns, the wick reaches full capacity
Maintenance
- Don't over-fuel — dripping wicks waste fuel and are dangerous
- Extinguish with fire blanket, not water (water degrades the wick)
- Check for fraying, loose threads, or charred spots
- Store dry — don't leave wicks soaking between sessions
When to replace
Replace when thin, charred through, or when burn time drops. Well-maintained kevlar lasts 100+ burns.
