Fire Safety Basics
Safetyfiresafety
The golden rules of fire spinning. Follow these every single time.
Before you spin
- Safety spotter — always have someone watching with a wet towel and fire blanket
- Clear the area — minimum 3m radius, no bystanders, no flammable materials
- Tie back hair — loose hair catches fire instantly
- Wear natural fibers — cotton or wool. Synthetic fabrics melt onto skin
- No alcohol — never spin fire under the influence
During spinning
- Spin off excess fuel before lighting — hold the prop down and spin fast
- Keep your mouth closed — don't breathe in fumes
- If something goes wrong, stay calm. Drop the prop and step away
After spinning
- Extinguish in a fire blanket or wet towel — never blow them out
- Let props cool before storing
- Check wicks for damage after every session
